You play as Hiryu, a lone operative from the Strider organization, sent into a futuristic Soviet-themed dystopia to take down a grand master. The game stood out immediately with its fluid animation and large, detailed sprites that filled the screen with activity.
You control Hiryu through a series of multi-tiered stages, using his Cypher, a glowing plasma sword, to cut down robotic soldiers, beasts, and towering bosses. The action is fast and demanding; you're constantly jumping, sliding, and climbing across environments that scroll both left to right and vertically. Signature moves include a sliding attack to duck under projectiles and a versatile wall-climb that lets you scale almost any surface. The pace is relentless, and the challenge is stiff, especially in later stages where enemy patterns tighten up. Playing it feels like executing a precise, high-speed ballet of destruction.
