I picked up Super Chinese Fighter EX for the Game Boy Color back in 1999, a release from Culture Brain that fit right in with the era's love for quirky multiplayer handheld games. It wasn't trying to be the next big thing; it was just a solid, fun brawler you could play with a friend using the link cable, something a lot of us were doing back then.
You control one of several fighters, moving screen by screen through themed stages, punching and throwing enemies with exaggerated, almost comical force. The main goal is to clear each area of opponents, using special moves and environmental throws to gain the upper hand. The pacing is brisk, with short stages that keep things moving, though some later enemy patterns can get tricky. It feels loose and silly in the best way, like a playground scrap turned into a video game.
