Play Super Double Yakuman (Japan) Online
The tiles clack with perfect weight when you slide them across the table, and pulling off a Yakuman makes the screen erupt in flashing kanji like you just broke the game. Lose three straight hands to a pixelated grandma and somehow still have a good time.
Super Double Yakuman came out on the Super Nintendo in 1994, published by Vap. It's a mahjong game from a time when the SNES had a little bit of everything, and this one was for players who already knew their way around the tiles.
You control a cursor to select and discard tiles, trying to build a winning hand against computer opponents. The main goal is to win rounds by forming specific tile combinations, with the ultimate aim of scoring a Yakuman, the highest possible hand. Signature mechanics include declaring riichi to go for a win, stealing tiles from other players to complete sets, and navigating the scoring system which is deep and very Japanese. The game moves at a deliberate, thoughtful pace, and the difficulty is no joke; the AI is sharp and won't hand you wins. It feels like a quiet, focused test of your ability to read the table and plan several moves ahead.
