Super Dunk Star is one of those SNES games that makes you wonder how you missed it back in the day. It’s basketball, but not as you know it—players zip around the court like they’ve had three energy drinks, and every dunk sends the crowd (and your controller) into hysterics. The first time I pulled off a mid-air spin into a backwards slam, I just grinned like an idiot.
The pixel art pops with these bright, almost neon courts, and the soundtrack has that perfect early '90s arcade punch. No fouls, no tedious timeouts—just you, a friend if you’re lucky, and a non-stop barrage of ridiculous plays. It’s the kind of game where you’ll lose track of the score because you’re too busy trying to out-style each other. If NBA Jam and a Saturday morning cartoon had a baby, this would be it.
Still holds up shockingly well for a quick two-player match or when you need a five-minute burst of pure, unfiltered joy. Just don’t blame me when you start trash-talking like it’s 1994 again.
