Super Puyo Puyo Tsuu Remix came out for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System in 1996, developed by Compile. It was a late-era SNES release, a time when the console was still getting solid puzzle games even as newer systems were taking over. This version was actually a remix of the second Puyo Puyo game, adding some new modes and refinements for the home audience.

You control a cursor to drop pairs of colored blobs, called Puyo, into a well. The main goal is to clear your screen by connecting four or more of the same color, while the garbage you send piles up on your opponent's side. The signature mechanics are chaining, where one group's pop makes others fall and pop in sequence, and the all-important offset drop, which lets you nudge a pair after it lands. The pacing is frantic; you have to think several moves ahead to set up big chains while reacting to the constant threat of incoming junk. It feels like a tense, cerebral race where one good combo can completely turn the match around.
