Play Surf's Up (E)(sUppLeX) Online

Pick a penguin (or a goofy chicken), hit the waves, and chain together flips and tricks before wiping out. Simple, snappy, and way better than most movie tie-ins.

Game Overview

Surf's Up on GBA is one of those licensed movie games that actually doesn’t suck. You play as the penguins and other birds from the film, shredding waves in short, arcade-style surfing runs. The controls are simple—mostly timing your jumps and tricks—but nailing a perfect combo feels surprisingly satisfying.

What’s cool is each character has slightly different stats, like speed or trick potential. I kept going back to the laid-back chicken because his flips looked ridiculous. The water physics are basic but decent for a handheld, and the courses throw in ramps and obstacles to keep you from just coasting. It’s not deep, but for a quick play between classes or commutes, it’s weirdly addictive.

Just don’t expect the full console experience—this is a stripped-down, pick-up-and-play version that works better than it should.
