Play Surf's Up (XenoPhobia) Online
Ride the waves as a penguin surfer, perform tricks with the stylus, and compete in championships to score high and beat the judges in Surf's Up on Nintendo DS.
Surf's Up for the Nintendo DS came out in 2007, published by Ubisoft. It was part of that wave of movie tie-in games from the mid-2000s, trying to capture the feel of the animated film on a handheld. The DS was full of experimental control schemes back then, and this one definitely leaned into that.
You control one of the penguin surfers from the movie, competing in various championships. The main goal is to win each event by getting the highest score from the judges. You use the stylus to perform tricks by drawing specific shapes on the touch screen, and you physically tilt the entire system to steer your surfer left and right to catch waves and avoid obstacles. The pacing is quick, with short heats that make it easy to pick up for a few minutes, though nailing a long combo chain takes practice. It feels surprisingly responsive once you get the hang of the motion controls.
