Surf's Up for the Game Boy Advance came out in 2007, published by Ubisoft. It was one of those licensed movie games that showed up a lot on the GBA, especially for animated films. This one tried to capture the surfing competition vibe from the movie, offering a simple, portable take on the sport.
You control Cody Maverick, a young penguin surfer, as you ride waves and perform tricks to earn points. The main goal is to win each heat by getting a higher score than the other surfers. You use the D-pad and buttons to build speed, jump, and execute grabs and spins; timing your jumps right is key to linking combos. The game moves at a steady pace, and while it's not overly difficult, mistiming a trick can send you tumbling. It feels light and arcade-like, a straightforward time waster between bigger games.
