Tak: The Great Juju Challenge came out for the Nintendo DS in 2005, published by THQ. It was part of that early wave of DS platformers, a time when developers were still figuring out how to use both screens, often for maps or inventory. This one was based on the Nickelodeon cartoon, so it had that specific, slightly goofy energy a lot of licensed games from that era carried.
You control Tak and his companion Lok through a series of levels, switching between them to use their unique abilities; Tak fights with a staff and uses a blowpipe, while Lok is stronger and can lift heavy objects. The main goal is to collect pieces of the Moon Juju to stop an eternal night. You explore screen by screen, solving environmental puzzles that often require both characters, and you fight off enemies with simple combo attacks. The pacing is brisk, and the difficulty is manageable, never getting too punishing. It feels like a straightforward, cooperative adventure where the fun comes from figuring out the simple puzzles together.
