Tatakai no Banka came out in 2003 for arcades, developed by Arcade Studios. You control a lone swordsman fighting through screen after screen of demonic soldiers and mythical beasts. The goal is to survive each stage and defeat the boss waiting at the end. Enemies telegraph their attacks just enough that you can weave between strikes if you time it right. Boss fights feel brutal but fair, often tossing you across the screen when you slip up. The pacing is relentless, with little room to breathe between enemy waves. It feels tense and physical, like every decision carries weight.
