Game Overview

Teaching Tiles was part of the MS-DOS Classic Games collection, a compilation that bundled various titles from the era without a specific developer or publisher credited upfront. It fits right into that period of straightforward, thoughtful software designed to run on home computers, offering a break from action-heavy games with its methodical, cerebral approach.

You control letter and number tiles on a grid, sliding them one space at a time to form complete words or correct equations. The main objective is to clear each screen by arranging all tiles into valid sequences, which requires planning several moves ahead to avoid dead ends. Signature mechanics include the limited sliding movement, which only allows tiles to move into empty spaces, and the need to sometimes break apart partial solutions to make room for others. The pacing is slow and considered, with difficulty that escalates as grids become more cramped and solutions less obvious. It feels like quietly untangling a knot with your mind, one thoughtful nudge at a time.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
