Game Overview

Tenchu: Shadow Assassins came out on the PlayStation Portable in 2009, developed by Acquire and published by FromSoftware. It was part of that wave of stealth action games that really made the most of the PSP's hardware, offering a focused, portable experience during a time when handhelds were still carving out their own identity. The game builds on the series' established setting, placing you once again in feudal Japan as a ninja operating from the shadows.

You control either Rikimaru or Ayame, skilled assassins tasked with eliminating specific targets across a series of missions. The main objective is to complete your assignments without being detected, using stealth and precision over brute force. Key mechanics include sticking to shadows to remain unseen, timing instant kill moves when close to enemies, and using tools like shuriken and smoke bombs to create distractions or escape tight situations. The pacing is deliberate, almost tense; rushing usually ends badly, and the game encourages patience and observation. It feels methodical and satisfying when a plan comes together quietly.
