Test Drive 6 on the Game Boy Color is one of those late '90s racing games that somehow squeezed decent speed out of the little handheld. You’ve got a handful of real cars—Ferraris, Porsches, the usual suspects—but they all look like tiny, chunky pixel versions of themselves. The handling’s arcadey, so you can powerslide around corners without worrying too much about realism.
First race in, you’re thrown into a city track with traffic to dodge, which keeps things from feeling too empty. The music’s got that classic GBC synth vibe, all upbeat and slightly grating after a while. It’s not the deepest racer, but for quick bursts of speed on the go, it does the job. Just don’t expect Gran Turismo.
Fun fact: This was bundled in a multi-game cart called Road Thrills back in the day, so if you owned that, you basically got four mediocre games for the price of one.
