Play The Ooze Online
Control a toxic blob, absorb smaller puddles, stretch out to attack enemies, and navigate tricky industrial environments in The Ooze for Sega Genesis.
The Ooze came out in 1995 for the Sega Genesis, developed by Sega Technical Institute. It was part of that late-era push on the system, where developers were trying out weirder concepts and stretching what the hardware could do visually. You don't see many games where the main character is a puddle of sentient goo.
You control a scientist who has been transformed into a toxic, amorphous blob, and your goal is to hunt down the corporation responsible. You move screen by screen through industrial environments, absorbing smaller puddles of ooze to increase your mass and health. Your main forms of attack are stretching out a pseudopod to shove enemies into environmental hazards or spitting corrosive acid. The game is methodical and often difficult, requiring careful positioning to avoid taking damage from smaller, faster foes. It feels uniquely tense and gross, in a good way, slowly oozing your way through each hazardous zone.
