Game Overview
Thoroughbred Breeder III is basically horse racing tycoon for the SNES—you're running a stable, breeding champions, and trying not to go bankrupt when your prize mare finishes dead last in the Kyoto Cup. The core loop hasn’t changed much from the first two games, but this time you can ship your horses overseas to compete in big international races. Watching your homebred colt stumble through the mud at Ascot while British commentators probably mock his terrible form? Weirdly compelling.
You’ll spend most of your time juggling training schedules, checking bloodlines (the genetics system is oddly detailed for a 16-bit game), and praying your three-year-old doesn’t develop chronic ankle problems right before the big race. The new overseas events add some variety, though good luck affording the airfare at first. It’s one of those games where you’ll restart twice before realizing you should’ve just bought that cheap stud with the decent stats instead of blowing your budget on a fancy mare.
If you liked the first two, this is more of the same but with extra races and slightly nicer sprites. Just don’t name your horses after real people—watching "Uncle Steve" limp home in 12th place gets depressing fast.
