One wrong move and you're toast—this barebones DOS strategy game makes every pixel feel like life or death. No hand-holding, just you sweating over keyboard commands while some unseen threat closes in.

Threat is a 1990 MS-DOS release from developer Softdisk Publishing, a title that quietly appeared among many other shareware and budget games of the era. It doesn't aim for flashy graphics or complex storytelling; instead, it presents a stark, grid-based environment where survival depends entirely on foresight and careful movement. The game fits right into the early '90s PC landscape, where minimalist interfaces and turn-based logic were common tools for creating tension.
You control a single character navigating through a series of maze-like levels, each viewed from a top-down perspective. Your main objective is simply to reach the exit, but every screen is filled with patrolling enemies that follow predictable but deadly patterns. The core mechanics involve planning each move in advance; you can only act when enemies are not moving, and misjudging their path means instant failure. Pacing is deliberately slow, almost puzzle-like, as you analyze threats and plot safe routes across the grid. It feels like a tense game of mental chess where one miscalculation resets everything.
Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
