Game Overview

Three Lions came out for the Game Boy Color in 2000, published by Take-Two Interactive. It was one of many football games on the system, aiming to capture the feel of managing and playing matches in a portable format. The graphics were simple, the controls straightforward; it didn't try to reinvent the wheel, just offered a solid handheld soccer experience for its time.

You control the English national team, picking your squad and formation before each match. The main goal is to win tournaments by scoring more goals than the opponent. You pass, tackle, and shoot using the D-pad and buttons, with through balls and sliding challenges being key moves. Matches are fast, sometimes chaotic, and the difficulty can spike against stronger teams. It feels like a genuine, if slightly rough, attempt to bring football management and action together on a small screen.
