Game Overview

TimeSplitters 2 came out on the Nintendo GameCube in 2002, developed by Free Radical Design and published by Eidos Interactive. It was part of that early 2000s wave of fast-paced shooters that really pushed local multiplayer, back when split-screen was the main way to play with friends. The GameCube had its share of unique titles, but this one stood out for its sheer energy and willingness to be completely silly.

You play as Sergeant Cortez, hopping through time to stop an alien race called the TimeSplitters. Each mission drops you into a different era, from a Siberian dam in the Cold War to a haunted mansion in the 1890s. The action is quick and arcade-like; you run through levels blasting enemies, completing objectives like planting explosives or rescuing hostages, and grabbing weapons that fit the time period, like futuristic energy guns or old-fashioned revolvers. The game moves fast, and the difficulty can spike without much warning, especially when enemies swarm from all sides. It feels chaotic and a little rough around the edges, but in a way that keeps you coming back for just one more try.
