Game Overview

TimeSplitters 2 is one of those rare shooters that never takes itself too seriously, but still packs in more content than most games twice its size. You play as Cortez, a wisecracking space marine hopping through time to stop the TimeSplitters—basically evil alien gremlins—from messing up history. One minute you're blasting cowboys in the Wild West with a futuristic plasma rifle, the next you're sneaking through a neon-lit cyberpunk city. The time travel gimmick works perfectly for throwing wild variety at you without it feeling forced.

The campaign’s a blast, especially with a friend in co-op, but where this game really shines is the Arcade mode. You’ve got classic deathmatch, sure, but also ridiculous stuff like Flame Tag (catch opponents on fire) or Monkey Assistant (exactly what it sounds like). The bots are surprisingly competent, too—set the difficulty high, and they’ll flank you like pros. And with over 120 unlockable characters (including a gingerbread man and a literal duck), there’s always something new to mess around with.

It’s chaotic, fast, and doesn’t waste your time with unnecessary cutscenes. Just pure, ridiculous fun with a surprisingly deep challenge mode if you’re into chasing high scores. If you’ve ever wanted to play a shooter where you can be a zombie cowboy fighting robot monkeys, this is your game.
