Top Gun: Guts & Glory on the Game Boy is one of those "inspired by the movie but does its own thing" kind of games. You pick from four jets—the F-14 Tomcat feels the most satisfying, though the Stealth fighter has its moments—and blast through 10 levels of enemy fighters and battleships. The controls take some getting used to, but tweaking the sensitivity before each mission helps.

What’s cool is how different each mode feels. Career mode’s the main deal, but Air Combat’s just pure dogfighting chaos, and Bombing Run makes you switch up your strategy. And yeah, you’ll be scribbling down those password codes unless you beat it in one sitting (good luck with that). It’s janky in that classic Game Boy way, but if you stick with it, there’s some real arcade-style fun here.
