Game Overview

Track & Field on the Game Boy is one of those classic button-mashers that'll leave your thumbs sore in the best way. It's got all the Olympic events you'd expect—100m dash, javelin throw, pole vault—plus some curveballs like archery and weightlifting. The controls are simple but brutal: mash A and B like your life depends on it, then nail the timing for jumps or throws. I still remember the first time I faceplanted in the long jump because I released the button too early.

What's cool is how different it feels from the arcade version. The Game Boy's tiny screen forces some creative adaptations—hammer throw becomes this weird top-down perspective, and swimming has you dodging lane markers. There's a full competition mode if you want to go for gold across all events, but honestly, I spent most of my time in versus mode with a friend and a link cable, trash-talking over who could button-mash faster.

It's not the prettiest sports game out there, but there's something weirdly satisfying about how the pixelated athletes flail their way through events. Just don't blame me when you realize you've been mashing buttons for 20 minutes straight.
