Play Tuff E Nuff (Europe) Online
Pick a fighter who looks like a rejected anime character, then mash buttons in this janky SNES brawler where the AI spams the same move and the announcer won’t stop yelling the title at you.
Alright, so Tuff E Nuff is this weird little SNES fighter from Jaleco that flew under the radar. The setup’s wild—imagine a post-apocalyptic world where everyone’s just… really into martial arts tournaments for some reason? You pick from a roster of fighters who all look like they’ve been through a blender of 90s anime tropes, from cyborgs to samurai to this one guy who might just be a sentient pile of rocks.
Gameplay’s your standard punch-kick-special move stuff, but there’s a weird charm to how janky it feels. The controls are stiff compared to Street Fighter, and the AI loves to cheese you with the same move over and over. Still, something about the pixel art and the over-the-top voice samples (“TUFF E NUFF!”) makes it hard to hate. It’s the kind of game you play at 2 AM with a friend when you’ve run out of better options.
Would I recommend it over, say, Fatal Fury? Nah. But if you’re into obscure fighting games with bizarre energy, it’s got its moments.
