Ultima VI: The False Prophet is a 1990 RPG for Amiga. Features real-time combat, open-world exploration, party management, and nonlinear quests. Players reclaim shrines from gargoyles through diplomacy or combat.
Ultima VI drops you right back into Britannia, but things aren’t as peaceful as you left them. Gargoyles—these weird, demon-looking creatures—have taken over the shrines, and of course, it’s up to you (the Avatar) to figure out why. The twist? They’re not just mindless villains. The more you dig, the more you realize there’s a whole other side to the story, and peace isn’t just about swinging a sword.
What’s cool here is how the world feels alive. No more jarring switches between combat screens and exploration—everything happens right where you stand. You’ll pick up random junk (because why not?), chat with NPCs who actually have things to say beyond “go kill rats,” and even split your party to cover more ground. The dialogue’s surprisingly deep, though you’ll need to type keywords to keep conversations going—no hand-holding here.
And yeah, you can totally sequence-break the whole thing if you know what you’re doing. Want to ignore the main quest and just hoard cheese wheels? Go for it. The FM Towns version even has full voice acting, which is wild for its time. It’s one of those games where you’ll get lost in the details, whether you mean to or not.
