Game Overview

Ultraman: Towards the Future came out for the Super Nintendo in 1991, developed by BEC Co., Ltd. It was part of that early wave of SNES games that tried to bring big, colorful action home, and it definitely had the look of something you'd catch on TV on a Saturday morning. The game was based on the Australian co-production of the Ultraman series, which gave it a slightly different flavor compared to the more familiar Japanese versions.

You control Ultraman, moving through side-scrolling stages to defeat giant monsters and eventually the main antagonist, Gudis. The main objective is straightforward: beat up everything in your path. You have a standard set of punches and kicks, and you build up a special meter that lets you unleash the Specium Ray, your signature finishing move. The game is structured level by level, with some light platforming and environmental hazards to navigate. It's not an easy game; the enemies hit hard, and timing your attacks is crucial. Playing it feels like stepping into a slightly clunky but earnest suit of rubber and foam, throwing fists at monsters until the screen flashes.
