Game Overview

Valkyria Chronicles II came out on the PlayStation Portable in 2010, developed and published by Sega. It was one of the more ambitious tactical RPGs on the system, building on the foundation of its PlayStation 3 predecessor but designed for shorter, portable play sessions.

You control a squad of Lanseal Military Academy cadets, moving individual units across a battlefield divided into distinct phases: planning on an overhead map, then executing actions in a third-person view where you directly aim and fire. The main goal is to capture enemy camps or eliminate all opposition, using a mix of infantry, tanks, and specialized classes like engineers and snipers. Managing each unit's limited action points and vulnerability during enemy phases adds a constant layer of tension. The pacing is methodical, demanding careful positioning and resource management, but successfully flanking an enemy or pulling off a last-second medic save feels incredibly rewarding.
