I picked up WALL-E for the Nintendo DS back in 2008, a game developed by Heavy Iron Studios. It was one of those licensed titles that came out alongside the film, fitting right into the era of touchscreen experimentation on the handheld. The DS had a lot of quirky control schemes at the time, and this one tried to make use of both screens and the stylus in a pretty direct way.
You control WALL-E through a series of environmental puzzles, mostly involving stacking cubes, moving trash, and navigating compact levels. Periodically, you switch to EVE for shooting sections where you target enemies and obstacles. The main goal is to clean up Earth and eventually help the Axiom’s inhabitants return. The pacing is relaxed, though some physics puzzles can be finicky, and the difficulty stays fairly mild. It feels like a light, interactive extension of the movie’s world, simple but occasionally satisfying when a plan comes together.
