Bethesda's first crack at a Wayne Gretzky hockey game on the NES is a surprisingly deep little hockey sim for its time. You've got all the basics — big hits, fights, penalties — but what surprised me was how much control you get off the ice too. Between periods, you're tweaking lines like a real coach, and yeah, you can even create your own Frankenstein team of custom players (I made my entire high school hockey team, which... didn't go well). The AI isn't perfect — goalies sometimes forget they're supposed to stop pucks — but there's something charming about how much they crammed into this cartridge.
