Game Overview

Wayne Gretzky Hockey 3 came out in 1996 as part of the MS-DOS Classic Games series, published by Bethesda Softworks. It was one of the later hockey titles for the platform, arriving when many players were already moving toward Windows and early 3D graphics, but it offered a polished, accessible take on the sport for those still running DOS.

You control a five man unit on the ice, switching between players to chase the puck, set up passes, and take shots on goal. The main objective is simple: outscore the opposing team. Signature mechanics include manual goalie control, which lets you take direct command of the netminder to make reaction saves, and a detailed stats system that tracks everything from shots on goal to penalty minutes. The pace is faster than earlier entries in the series, with fewer graphical hiccups and smoother player movement, though the computer can still punish defensive mistakes. It feels like a solid, no nonsense hockey sim that holds up if you appreciate straightforward sports games from that era.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
