Game Overview

Okay, so We're Back! – A Dinosaur's Tale on Genesis is one of those weird little platformers that somehow sticks with you. You play as these four goofy dinosaurs—Rex can do a weird little headbutt, Elsa jumps like she's on springs—and you're basically wrecking your way through New York City to save some kids. The first level throws you right into this carnival with roller coasters and popcorn stands, which feels bizarre until you remember, oh right, this is based on that movie where dinosaurs eat magic cereal.

The controls are a bit stiff at first (classic '90s platformer jank), but once you get used to it, there's something oddly satisfying about smashing through walls as a tiny T-Rex. The music's got that upbeat Sega sound, all bouncy and slightly chaotic, and the later levels get surprisingly creative—one minute you're dodging pterodactyls in a museum, the next you're sliding down skyscraper scaffolding. It's not perfect, but if you grew up with this era of games, it hits that sweet spot between frustrating and charming.

Honestly, I only rented it as a kid because the box art looked cool, but I still hum the carnival theme sometimes.
