3 Ninjas Kick Back on the Sega Genesis is one of those classic movie tie-in platformers that somehow manages to be way more fun than it has any right to be. You pick between three ninja kids—each with their own fighting style—to help an old samurai track down his stolen ceremonial dagger. I always went with the boomerang guy because, well, boomerangs.
It’s got all the usual platforming stuff—jumping over pits, climbing ropes, ducking under attacks—but the controls actually feel pretty tight for a licensed game. The levels throw everything at you: ninjas popping out of nowhere, tricky jumps, even these weird spinning blade traps that still give me flashbacks. And yeah, the boss fights are as frustratingly satisfying as you’d expect from a ‘90s game.
If you grew up with this one, it’s pure nostalgia. If not, it’s still a solid, slightly janky slice of retro action.
