Wetrix came out on the Nintendo 64 in 1998, developed by Zed Two. It was a puzzle game that felt different from most things on the system at the time, offering a quiet, almost abstract challenge instead of the usual action or adventure. You didn't control a character; you managed a plot of land from above, trying to contain the elements.

You control the landscape itself, dropping and rotating terrain pieces to create valleys and hills. The main goal is to prevent water from spilling off the edges of the playfield. Rain falls and fills your basins; if you let too much water escape, you lose. Earthquakes can suddenly tilt the entire landscape, and bombs drop to blow holes in your carefully constructed barriers. The pace starts slow but quickly becomes frantic as weather events stack up. It feels like a constant, tense battle against chaos, where one mistake can undo minutes of careful work.
