Windy X Windam is one of those DS fighters that somehow flew under the radar—which is a shame, because it's got way more personality than most. You've got these wild anime-style characters (my personal favorite's the samurai who fights with an umbrella), and the whole thing plays out across both screens—knock someone high enough, and the fight literally moves to the top display.
The controls are simple enough that you can mash buttons and still pull off cool moves, but there's actual depth if you dig into the Windy techniques. Nothing beats landing a perfectly timed special and watching your opponent eat a ridiculous 20-hit combo. There's even single-card multiplayer, which was basically black magic back in the DS days.
It's not the most balanced fighter ever made, but who cares when you're chucking ninja stars at a pirate in midair? The roster's small but packed with weirdos, and the pixel art still holds up. Just try not to throw your DS when someone spams the fireball girl's ultimate move.
