I picked up Wolfenstein 3D for the Game Boy Advance back in 2002, a port handled by a few different studios including BAM! Entertainment and Imagineer. It was a time when having a full first-person shooter on a handheld felt like a novelty, even if it was a conversion of a much older PC game. The GBA screen was small, the controls were adapted, but it was still Wolfenstein, and that was enough.
You control William "B.J." Blazkowicz, an Allied agent fighting to escape Castle Wolfenstein. Your goal is straightforward: shoot Nazis, find keys, and locate the exit on each floor. The game plays out screen by screen in a grid-based maze, with secret walls to push and health packs or ammo to collect. The pacing is relentless; enemies appear quickly, and the maze-like levels demand careful navigation. It feels raw and immediate, a tense scramble for survival with a chaingun in your hands.
