Worms Armageddon on the Game Boy Color came out in 1999, developed by Team17. It was one of those late-era portable games that tried to squeeze a complex experience onto a small screen, and it arrived when the handheld was still popular but nearing the end of its life. You got the same turn-based artillery combat as the PC version, just scaled down and made portable.
You control a team of worms, taking turns to move and attack opposing teams across destructible 2D landscapes. The main goal is to eliminate all enemy worms using an arsenal of exaggerated weapons, from bazookas and grenades to exploding sheep and banana bombs. Signature mechanics include adjusting your shot angle and power while accounting for wind, and using tools like the ninja rope or blowtorch to navigate tricky terrain. Matches are methodical but can turn chaotic quickly; the difficulty comes from predicting physics and outsmarting opponents. It feels satisfying to land a perfect shot after careful calculation, or to watch a well-placed dynamite stick collapse the ground under your foe.
