Game Overview

I picked up WWE SmackDown! vs. RAW 2006 for the PlayStation Portable back in 2005, developed by Yuke's and published by THQ. It was one of the more ambitious wrestling games on the PSP at the time, offering a surprisingly deep experience for a handheld title. The portability meant you could take the action anywhere, which was a big deal when the system was still relatively new.

You control a wrestler from the WWE roster, or create your own, and compete in matches ranging from standard one-on-one bouts to hardcore and ladder matches. The main objective is to win matches, build rivalries, and climb the ranks in Season Mode, where you also make backstage decisions that affect your storylines. Signature mechanics include the stamina system, which forces you to pace your attacks and recover strategically, and the analog stick-based grappling for more precise control over moves. The game can be challenging, especially when the AI capitalizes on your mistakes, but pulling off a well-timed finisher after wearing down your opponent feels incredibly satisfying. It captures the chaotic, physical feel of a WWE broadcast in the palm of your hand.
