I picked up xXx for the Game Boy Advance back when it came out, a licensed title from Activision that tried to cash in on the Vin Diesel movie. It was one of those early 2000s tie-ins that felt pretty standard for the platform, not particularly ambitious but there if you were a fan of the property. The GBA had a lot of these quick, arcade-style action games, and this one fit right into that crowded space.
You control Xander Cage, running and gunning through side-scrolling levels filled with enemy soldiers and obstacles. The main goal is straightforward: shoot everything in your path, survive environmental hazards, and take down bosses. Two mechanics stand out: the driving stages where you ram enemy vehicles off the road, and the on-foot sections that mix standard shooting with occasional platforming. The pacing is fast, almost relentless, and the difficulty can spike unexpectedly in later stages. It feels like a chaotic, messy arcade shooter that doesnโt take itself too seriously.
