Youkai Buster: Ruka no Daibouken came out in 1995 for the Super Nintendo, developed by Jaleco. You control Ruka, a young girl armed with a whip and special sealing talismans. The combat requires you to switch between your whip for direct attacks and your talismans for trapping, which adds a layer of strategy since some enemies are immune to your whip. Stages are screen by screen, with some light exploration and occasional hidden paths. The difficulty can spike unexpectedly, especially when dealing with multiple agile foes. It feels methodical and tense, demanding patience as much as quick reflexes.
