Play Ys III - Wanderers from Ys EasyType Online

Switching from top-down to side-scrolling, you slash through enemies as Adol—bosses still hit hard, but the "EasyType" tweaks keep it from feeling unfair. The pixel art and music shine, and dungeons hide just enough secrets to reward some extra poking around.

Game Overview

Ys III: Wanderers from Ys EasyType on SNES is a weird little departure from the series—no top-down exploration here, just straight-up side-scrolling action where you slash through enemies as Adol. The "EasyType" tweaks make it way less punishing than the original, which is nice because some of those bosses can still wreck you if you’re not careful.

At first, I missed the overhead view from Ys I and II, but the combat here actually feels great once you get used to it. The pixel art pops, the music slaps (as usual for Ys), and the dungeons have just enough hidden stuff to make backtracking feel worth it. It’s short, but sometimes that’s exactly what you want from a retro RPG—no filler, just solid sword-swinging fun.
