Ys Seven throws you right into the action as Adol and his buddy Dogi roll into Altago looking for trouble—and of course, they find it immediately. One minute you're stopping some knights from harassing locals, the next you're getting roped into investigating weird earthquakes by the king himself. Classic Adol luck.

The combat feels snappy—you’re smashing buttons for quick sword combos at first, but then you realize you can swap between three party members on the fly. I kept forgetting to switch at first until I got wrecked by a boss that demanded specific character skills. Speaking of skills, you unlock wild special moves by sticking with weapons long enough to "master" them, which makes loot way more exciting than usual RPG gear.

No jumping here (weird at first if you played later Ys games), but dashing around enemies to flank them never gets old. The AI party members actually pull their weight too, which is rare for this kind of game. Just don’t expect a chill sightseeing trip—Altago’s got earthquakes, ancient secrets, and way too many dragons to stab.
