If you grew up watching Yuu Yuu Hakusho, this SNES fighter is basically a love letter to the Dark Tournament arc. The pixel art nails the anime’s style—Yusuke’s cocky grin, Hiei’s glowing red eyes—and pulling off their signature moves (like the Spirit Gun) feels way more satisfying than it has any right to. The controls are surprisingly smooth for a 16-bit brawler, though Toguro’s ridiculous muscle form still gives me trouble.
It’s not just fan service, either. The fights are fast, with a weirdly deep combo system once you dig into it. Kurama’s rose whip is stupidly fun to spam, but good luck landing it against someone who knows what they’re doing. My only gripe? The roster’s a bit slim compared to modern fighters, but hey—it’s from 1994, and every character actually feels different. Still holds up if you can track down a copy.
