Zak McKracken is this weird, hilarious adventure where you play as a down-on-his-luck tabloid reporter who stumbles onto an alien conspiracy—turns out they’re using phone lines to turn everyone into mindless zombies. Classic '80s logic, right? You team up with a ragtag group (including an anthropologist and her friends) to stop them, hopping between real-world locations and even going off-planet at one point.
It plays like Maniac Mansion—click verbs to interact, swap between characters, and juggle inventory. Some puzzles have multiple solutions, so you can brute-force it or get clever. The FM Towns version looks way sharper with 256 colors, but the DOS floppy version’s got that janky retro charm. Either way, expect bizarre humor and puzzles that’ll make you scratch your head (in a good way).
Just don’t expect hand-holding—this is old-school adventure gaming at its most unapologetic.
