Zak McKracken and the Alien Mindbenders is this weird, underrated LucasArts adventure from the late '80s where you play as a tabloid journalist trying to stop aliens from turning humanity into idiots. Literally—they've got this machine that's making everyone dumber, and it's up to Zak and a trio of college students to save the world. The humor's dry, the puzzles are classic SCUMM-engine ridiculous (you'll be microwaving a frozen caveman at some point), and the pixel art has that perfect retro charm.

It never got as much love as Monkey Island or Day of the Tentacle, but there's something special about how bizarre it gets. One minute you're in San Francisco, the next you're teleporting to Mars or talking to a sentient statue. The FM Towns version even has upgraded VGA graphics and CD-quality music, which is wild for a game this old. Just don't expect it to hold your hand—some of the solutions are downright cryptic.
