Game Overview

Zoop was a Japan only release for the original Game Boy, developed by Hookstone and published by Viacom New Media. It arrived during a period when the handheld was saturated with puzzle games, offering a different kind of spatial challenge compared to the falling blocks of Tetris or the tile matching of Dr. Mario.

You control a small cursor, moving it left and right along the bottom of the screen to shoot at the advancing rows of colored shapes. Your main objective is to clear the screen by matching your cursor's color to the incoming pieces, destroying them before they reach the bottom. The core mechanics involve rapid color switching to always fire the correct shot and strategic aiming to create chain reactions. The pacing is relentlessly fast; the difficulty escalates quickly as the shapes pour in from all sides of the screen, not just the top. It feels like managing a controlled panic, where a moment's hesitation means a game over.
