Zoop came out for the Super Nintendo in 1995, developed by Hookstone Ltd. It was one of those puzzle games that felt right at home on the system, arriving late in its life when developers were comfortable pushing the hardware for sharp, fast-paced experiences without much story or fuss.
You control a small cursor at the center of the screen, and colored shapes approach from all four sides. The goal is to survive by matching the color of your cursor to the incoming piece and firing to eliminate it before it reaches the center. If a mismatched color touches you, it's game over. The playfield quickly fills with a relentless stream of shapes, demanding quick reflexes and constant scanning of the entire screen. The difficulty spikes noticeably after the first few stages, turning a calm matching exercise into a frantic test of perception. It feels like trying to stop a collapsing building by catching each individual brick.
