Game Overview

This GBA twofer gives you two totally different Sega classics in one cart. First up: Sonic Battle, which feels like someone took the speed of a regular Sonic game and smashed it into a fighting game. You’ve got all the usual suspects—Sonic, Tails, Knuckles—plus some deep cuts like Shadow and Rouge showing up in 2D for the first time. The story’s weirdly involved for a fighting game (some mystery about a robot named Emerl?), but the real fun is the multiplayer. It’s chaotic in the best way—dodging, comboing, and occasionally falling off the stage like an idiot.

Then there’s ChuChu Rocket, which looks cute until you realize it’s secretly a brain-melting puzzle game. You’re laying down arrows to guide these dopey mice into rockets while cats chase them. Sounds simple, but some later levels feel like solving a Rubik’s Cube blindfolded. The versus mode’s where it really shines though—nothing like frantically scrambling to outmaneuver a friend while the timer counts down.

Honestly, it’s a weird pairing, but both games hold up way better than they have any right to on a tiny screen.
