I first played 9 Hours, 9 Persons, 9 Doors on the Nintendo DS back in 2010, developed by Chunsoft. It came out during a time when the DS was full of experimental titles, and this one stood out for its heavy focus on story and puzzle solving rather than action. You don't see many games that blend visual novel storytelling with escape room logic, especially not with such a tense premise.

You control Junpei, a college student trapped on a mysterious ship with eight others, all forced to play a deadly game. The main goal is to escape through a series of numbered doors before the ship sinks, but to progress you need to solve environmental puzzles, gather clues, and make choices that affect which ending you get. The gameplay splits between exploring rooms screen by screen, tapping objects to find useful items, and engaging in dialogue with the other characters during novel segments. The pacing is deliberate, sometimes slow, as you piece together information and backtrack between locations. It feels like being part of a high stakes thriller where every discovery pulls you deeper into the mystery.
