Play Abalone Online
Strategically move your marbles on a hexagonal board to push your opponent's pieces off, while carefully planning to avoid leaving your own vulnerable in this abstract strategy game.
Abalone came out in 1988 as part of the MS-DOS Classic Games collection, developed by Michel Lalet and Laurent Levi. It was a simple, elegant abstract strategy game that fit right in with the kind of thoughtful, minimalist titles that found a home on PCs of that era, offering a clean digital alternative to physical board games.
You control a set of marbles, either black or white, arranged on a hexagonal board. The main objective is to be the first to push six of your opponent's marbles off the playing field. Your primary tool is the sumito move, where you line up a row of your marbles to outnumber an opponent's adjacent group and shove them backward. The game demands constant spatial calculation, as a poorly planned advance can leave your own pieces exposed and vulnerable to a counter push. The pacing is deliberate, almost tense, with each move carrying significant weight; the AI opponent capitalizes on any positional weakness with ruthless efficiency. It feels like a constant, quiet battle of pressure and foresight, where a single miscalculation can unravel your entire position in moments.
Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
