ACE 2 came out in 1987 as part of the MS-DOS Classic Games series from Cascade Games Ltd. It was a straightforward arcade-style flight shooter for its time, built for systems that handled simple graphics and fast keyboard responses. You got what you expected: a cockpit view, enemy formations, and the constant threat of running out of fuel or missiles.
You pilot a fighter jet through enemy territory, clearing each screen of adversaries before advancing. The core mechanics involve precise aiming with a limited crosshair, managing your missile count, and dodging relentless enemy fire. The pacing is tense and unforgiving; mistakes are punished instantly, and survival depends on quick reflexes and memorizing attack patterns. It feels like a relentless test of focus and timing, where every narrow escape brings a shot of pure relief.
Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
