You're thrown right into the cockpit as part of the Gryphus Squadron, defending Aurelia from a surprise invasion. The first mission has you scrambling to intercept bombers before they level your last remaining airbase – and that frantic energy never really lets up.

What surprised me was how much depth there is for a portable game. You've got over a dozen planes to unlock, each with their own handling quirks (the F-22 feels like cheating, but good luck affording it early on). Missions branch depending on your performance, so replaying to unlock new paths actually changes the war's outcome. And yeah, the story's full of anime-level political drama, but somehow watching two fictional nations bicker over radar-jamming superweapons works when you're barrel-rolling through missile locks.

The multiplayer's where it really shines though. Dogfights with friends on ad-hoc are chaotic in the best way, especially when someone picks the slow bomber and immediately regrets it. Just don't be the guy who crashes during the escort mission – your squad will never let you live it down.
