Advance Guardian Heroes (J) is a side-scrolling beat-em-up that feels like a mix of old-school brawling and light RPG elements. You pick one of three characters, then team up with a ghostly warrior to smash through waves of enemies.
The combat is fast but a little stiff at first, with simple combos and special moves tied to MP. What stands out is how chaotic it gets when enemies swarm you from both sides, forcing you to juggle between attacks and dodges.
Between levels, you spend crystals to upgrade stats or unlock new fighters for VS mode. It's satisfying to see your character slowly get stronger, though some upgrades feel minor at first. The pixel art is rough but has charm, especially the exaggerated attack animations.
