You control one of several warriors, each with unique attacks and a special guardian spirit that fights alongside you. Your main goal is to battle through waves of enemies across different levels, making choices that affect which path you take through the story. Key mechanics include switching between physical and magical attacks on the fly, leveling up your character and spirit with experience points, and engaging in frantic, multi-plane combat that lets you move between the foreground and background. The pacing is fast, and the difficulty can spike sharply in later stages.
