Play Advance Guardian Heroes Online
Pick a fighter, summon a ghost buddy, and plow through crowds—hits feel meaty, and dumping crystals into upgrades gets weirdly addictive. Versus mode’s pure chaos with four players crammed on that tiny screen.

Advance Guardian Heroes is that rare GBA game that actually feels like a proper console brawler—just with way more tiny sprites. You pick one of three fighters (I went with the sword guy first, obviously) and team up with a ghostly hero to smash through waves of enemies. The combat’s got weight to it—hits feel chunky, and there’s this weirdly deep upgrade system where you dump crystals into stats or unlock new characters for versus mode.
Speaking of versus, that’s where things get chaotic. Four-player battles on the GBA’s tiny screen are pure madness, but in the best way. Unlocking all 20 characters takes some grinding, but it’s worth it just to see how wildly their movesets differ. The story mode’s fun solo, but grab a friend with a link cable if you can—co-op makes the screen-filling boss fights way less punishing.
It’s not quite as fluid as the Saturn original, but for a handheld beat-em-up, it punches way above its weight.
